I’d like to do something special for my 40th this year, and still trying to decide!
1. Hike up to the back of Half-Dome in Yosemite in one day. Did this once with Karla, Martin and Susan in about 1990. Was wonderful. Would be nice to do it again, see the beautiful view, the river/waterfall on the way up…
2. Go to Arizona or New Mexico for a hot air balloon rally. I’ve always wanted to ride in a hot air balloon and see dozens in the sky at one time…
3. Go to the summer Cato University in San Diego? Would be great to get some new ideas, connect with other individualism/liberty folks, meet Drew Carey and see if I could make him laugh. http://www.cato.org/cato-university/
4. Go back to school for a Masters like I’ve always wanted?? I’d investigate compassion and the free market, how non-profits tie in to this, has technology made efficient central decision-making possible…
5. Really commit to swing dancing and find a partner for competitions?
6. Go back to Paris and see old friends like Pauline, Nagy, Valerie?
5. Visit Carole in Montreal this summer? I haven’t seen her since my wedding in 2001 and would love to see her again.
6. Visit the Galapagos Islands before it’s closed to tourists?
7. Buy a piano and learn to play it…
8. Do an Outward Bound camp?
The ones that appeal the most? Masters, piano, Outward Bound. I think it’s learning something completely new that’s appealing. Galapagos seems out of reach (our money’s going to build the business right now) as does Paris and Montreal. Swing dancing would take too much of my family time away I think.
I guess I’m looking for some sort of renewal? Mid-life crisis, here I come! (Actually I thought I’d already HAD my mid-life crisis two years ago when we left New Zealand and started Cut Through Comms here in California. Maybe I’m going to get two, then.)
